Bridesmaids VS Hangover 2

I saw both of these movies this weekend and both are absolutely hilarious! However, if I had to pick, I would recommend Bridesmaids over Hangover 2. Why?

• I think Bridesmaids has funnier moments. Hangover 2 has more of a shock value to it...so you end up laughing out of shock.
• I was so impressed with Kristen Wiig. She's actually a fabulous actress! I don't think you realize it while watching her on SNL. And everyone had such great chemistry in the movie.
• The Hangover crew is adorable.
• Bridesmaids is absolutely NOT a chick flick. I honestly think everyone would enjoy it.

quantum of solace movie review

i saw the new james bond movie during it's opening weekend. i was so excited to see it! however, i wasn't as impressed with it as i was with casino royale. i suppose that's the reason it has taken me over a week to post my review on quantum of solace.

anyway, here are my thoughts on the movie:

-great action movie, but...

-too many chasing scenes, too little dialogue (i missed bond's wit and charm in this movie)

-the new bond girl, olga kurylenko, is absolutely gorgeous

-daniel craig's sexiest body part = his lips

-the ending seemed a bit too abrupt

-judi dench...such a classy and powerful woman

-the plot line could have been a bit less...messy/all over the place

-very few romantic/sex scenes in this movie...very different from other bond movies

-definitely need to have seen casino royale to understand the tone of this movie

don't know if i would recommend spending $10 to go see this movie at the theatre. if you're not a major bond fan, i would wait till quantum of solace comes out on dvd. but being the major fan that i am, i can't wait till the next one comes out!

australia...and kidman's wacky lips

i just saw nicole kidman and hugh jackman on oprah talking about their new movie australia, but the only thing i could focus on were her lips!!

australia is set during world war II, so her plastic surgery lips look just absolutely ridiculous. why do actresses do this to themselves? ugh. it's not attractive and it's so obvious. kidman has been around for good amount of time, but i don't think she is necessarily a good actress. i'm sure there are many australian actresses (with a more natural look) that would have been more appropriate for the film.

anyway, i still want to see the movie. i mean, when it comes out on DVD

trivia: supposedly, the original ending of the movie was concluded to be too sad for american audiences, so the ending was changed. go here to read the article, but WARNING, it gives away the plot. so read with discretion.

juno

i finally saw the movie juno. the actors were brilliant. ellen page is going to go far. i expected the movie to be a funny take on unplanned teenage pregnancy. a far too common and unfortunate occurrence in our society. and of course, it was, and i found myself laughing throughout the movie. however, i think the movie also spoke of love.

love is truly a difficult concept to understand. it confuses, scares, yet warms people. we do certain things in our lives in order to obtain love. in order to be happy. there seems to be a mysterious formula for love and happiness and some of us try our darnest to follow it.

this movie illustrated how this formula is proven wrong.

gone baby gone

i recently rented the movie GoneBabyGone. it was directed by ben affleck and based on a book. casey affleck, morgan freeman, and ed harris are among the main characters. i thought the movie was well acted. but just as warning, it is a bit graphic and has lots of swearing. i mean, they really love dropping the f-bomb in this movie...i'm talking every other word. the movie makes you think though! after it ends, you find yourself wondering what you would do in the situation. what decision you would make...and just for the record, i agree with the ultimate decision that was made.

i'm tellin' ya...the ending makes you think.

my weekend went a little something like this...

weekend round-up:

• i saw the movie p.s. i love you and i cried every 15-20 minutes. like clockwork. i kid you not. get the dvd and a box of tissues and allow the movie to melt your heart away!
• my best friend from high school got engaged this weekend and i am SOOOO incredibly happy for her. she is one of those genuinely kind people that loves everything....you can't help but love her back.
• my ex-boyfriend also got engaged this weekend. it tugged at my heart just a little...i'm not gonna lie. oops.
• i totally treated myself to a nice (and successful) day of shopping on sunday. got some nice pieces for this autumn (can you believe fall clothes are out already?!).
• i am finally jogging and it feels great! it has been my goal to do so for the longest time, so it feels fantastic. it's almost a bit addictive. each time i jog i want to beat my previous time or distance. i think the key to becoming a jogger is learning how to breathe and pacing yourself.
• i made an entire pan of brownies and ate the entire thing myself this weekend...no, actually i lied...i gave two pieces away.
• it's really difficult to get through the weeks between wax sessions...unwanted hair just sucks. i never thought i would become one of those people that would routinely get my legs waxed. it's so high-maintenance. i can hardly believe my first wax session was only a little while ago!

moive review - Batman

i saw the The Dark Knight (aka. the new batman movie) last night and it was sooo good. very action packed! the plot moved quickly and it was well written. i also think that it's one of those movies that must be seen at the movie theatre.

other thoughts on the movie...

• i thought Heath Ledger was brilliant in the movie. great acting. RIP.
• i'm confused why such a popular indie actress, Maggie Gyllenhaal, would stray so far from her roots and star in one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer. (well, i suppose money is a good reason)
• i love Morgan Freeman's voice. i could listen to him talk non-stop.
• i never noticed how cute christian bale was until last night.
• i thought some of the make-up the actors were wearing in the movie was too obvious...and i'm not talking about the joker's makeup. when you watch the movie, notice the bronzer christian bale has on to accentuate his cheek bones...it's too obvious.
• how is batman's voice so drastically different than when he is just a normal guy?
• there are other things i want to talk about but it would give away some of the plot line...darn!
• go see the movie. you'll like it.

i love going to the movies!

i saw the new indiana jones movie last night. i liked it. i was a bit worried harrison ford was going to try to act younger than his age...he didn't. he definitely shows his age. i won't give any of the plot away, but it's very indiana jones-y...some action, some romance, some bad guys...a fun movie experience. but i'm the type of person who continues to think about a movie for days and now, after some thinking, i have few questions and thoughts:

1. why do most "bad guys" in a movie have an accent? it's usually russian, arabic, or brooklyn/italian (think mob movies), and frankly it's getting old. and we wonder where stereotypes come from.
2. i love the 1950s. everything seems so much simpler...and cleaner. also, i've always secretly wanted to wear one of those pointy bras from that era.
3. i don't think i've ever met a real-life anthropologist in my life. i've seen them on the discovery channel and what not, but i've never actually met one. do people still go into that profession? i know people who studied anthropology in undergrad, but now they don't do anything relevant with their degree.
4. i understand steven spielberg is great at what he does, but i sometimes feel like he is the equivalent to starbucks. he's every where. he seems to direct, or co-direct, everything...a monopoly of some sort. let's give some fresh-face director a chance to shine.

anyway, it was a good movie. i love movies. i especially love going to the movies at night.
