running with scissors

i just finished reading running with scissors by augusten burroughs. this book was crazy. it's hard to believe that the stories are actually real. it's about an extremely dysfunctional family and, at times, it was funny. however, most of the time, i was either completely shocked by what i was reading or just straight out disgusted! the author is gay, so there were several very graphic descriptions of homosexual sex. and i'm not going to lie, i was quite disturbed. i was NOT ready for that level of detail. overall though, this book was an easy and fast read for me. i just became so intrigued by how weird it was!

all i know is after reading this, i feel so grateful for the family and life that i have!

cooking with all things trader joe's

i was at barnes and noble the other day and i saw this book and i really, really wanted it:...but it was too expensive and i can't buy it right now. i can afford to shop at trader joe's (i do 90% of my grocery shopping there) but i can't afford a cookbook to teach me how to use all of their ingredients. kinda pathetic. but anyway, i found this website and now i'm happy :)
i love when the authors of cookbooks keep blogs.

let the reading begin!

so i've finally healed from the two weeks of tortuous finals i had a couple of weeks ago. i can talk about it all now. i am also to the point where i can look at books and not feel like i'm going to get sick. it feels good. i can't believe that i finished my first year of grad school. only 3 more years to go!

this past year i have been continuously adding to my summer reading list. topping the list is the book that everyone, it seems, has read: Eat, Pray, Love

i've only read about 20 pages or so, but i like it so far :) please let me know of any other recommended must-reads!

p.s. happy 4th of july!
