so sad

some guy set himself on fire today in the middle campus at the university of washington. i can't believe something so tragic could happen so near to me yet i JUST found out a few minutes ago. we get so caught up in our lives, so focused on our own problems, that we sometimes forget the struggles of others. i am truly shocked right now.

read more about it here and here.

italian chic, no?

you can't always be pretty. you can't always be sexy. and you definitely can't always be young.
...but you can always be chic...

my nose doesn't work anymore

so, i can't breathe with my nose anymore. it just decided to stop working. it sucks. i don't know what the problem is, i don't have a cold/allergies or a stuffy nose. i remember watching oprah a while back and hearing about neti pots (nose bidets). they supposedly help with nasal problems. ever since being featured on the oprah show, there has been a spike in sales and they are now available at common places like walgreens and whole foods.

has anyone tried one of these? what do you think?

i'm a little timid to try it. it looks a bit...disgusting. but if works, i'm willing to give it a try. why not?

here is a NY times article about them.

i usually love everything jcrew, but i don't know about this one...

...it's a bit too 80s-prom-dress.

in a couple of years, this will be one of those dresses that will make you wonder and say "ohmygoodness why?" when you see a picture of yourself wearing it.

1 teaspoon oil
1 chicken breast
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 slices of bread or 1 bun cut in half (toasted if desired)
1 roasted red pepper
4 basil leaves
1/2 ounce goat cheese

Directions:
1. Heat the oil in a pan.
2. Add the chicken breast and cook for about 6 minutes on each side.
3. Remove the chicken and set aside.
4. Add the balsamic vinegar and soy sauce and deglaze the pan.
5. Add the chicken and simmer until the sauce reduces turning the chicken occasionally to coat.
6. Place the chicken on the bottom slice of bread/bun and pour the remaining glaze onto it. Add the roasted red pepper, basil leaves and goats cheese.

running with scissors

i just finished reading running with scissors by augusten burroughs. this book was crazy. it's hard to believe that the stories are actually real. it's about an extremely dysfunctional family and, at times, it was funny. however, most of the time, i was either completely shocked by what i was reading or just straight out disgusted! the author is gay, so there were several very graphic descriptions of homosexual sex. and i'm not going to lie, i was quite disturbed. i was NOT ready for that level of detail. overall though, this book was an easy and fast read for me. i just became so intrigued by how weird it was!

all i know is after reading this, i feel so grateful for the family and life that i have!

alright everybody, listen up...

are you registered to vote? are you sure? really, really sure? go to this website to be absolutely positive that you are registered to vote and that your status is active. because if you're not registered, you won't be able to take part in a historical election...and that would just suck.
